The process of leaving a new religious movement and its impact on an individual's identity

The thesis deals with the issue of deconversion from the new religious movement Hare Krishna. Its aim was to find out what effect this process has on a person's identity. The thesis further explores how former members of the Hare Krishna movement view the deconversion process, what the first thoughts of leaving the movement were and under what circumstances they occurred. It has also been charted where the first steps of those who left the movement led and how their leisure activities and circle of friends changed. The thesis also looked at how former members of the Hare Krishna movement look back on their membership and what continues to make it meaningful to them. What does not make sense to them in retrospect was also taken into account. The research was conducted qualitatively using the method of thematic analysis. A total of four semi-structured interviews and five responses that were collected through an online form were analyzed. Thus, not only respondents from the Czech Republic but also from abroad were involved. The results of the analysis indicate that the identity of the respondents is changing.
